Areas of Expertise
Trauma
Anyone can be affected by trauma, the impact of which may be deep and long-lasting. I have extensive experience working with clients with PTSD and am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) as well as a Certified Trauma Informed Care Clinician. I have experience working with clients with dissociative disorders and utilize a variety of evidence-based treatment models to help individuals process and recover from their trauma.
LGBTQ+
More than a third of all LGBTQ+ people report symptoms of trauma, shame, fear, abuse, discrimination, and injured attachment. Many struggle with suicidal ideation. I work with queer individuals to build a safe and trusting therapeutic alliance using a trauma-informed lens to address symptoms related to suppression of self/self-acceptance, family fractures, coming out, transitioning, and community building.
Other Areas of Expertise

My Approach
I believe in relentless empathy and constant curiosity and will partner with you in a non-judgmental way that allows you to build skills that you will be able to use for the rest of your life.
In addition to private practice, I have worked in a variety of agency settings, including a crisis stabilization unit, a domestic violence shelter, and in a community behavioral health program that serves individuals living with major mental illness in the community as well as in group living environments.
I utilize a variety of models to create customized treatment for my clients and will partner with you to find methods that work best for you. I describe my approach as humanistic (with an emphasis on accessing your true self in order to live the most fulfilling life) and believe that with the right tools it is possible for anyone to improve their quality of life. I am experienced in working with people with a wide range of challenges, including trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, relationship and career difficulties, infertility, and major mental illness.

While my approach is spontaneous and tailored to the specific needs of each of my clients, everything I do stems from a variety of foundational theories of treatment, including several upon which I rely most heavily:

-
Psychodynamic Counseling, which takes into account your early life experiences and the ways in which they impact your life today;
-
Relational Psychoanalysis, which uses the relationship between the you and your therapist to help you see patterns in the ways you relate to others and opens a safe space for you to explore different ways of relating that feel more authentic and personally productive.
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based, goal-oriented treatment model that addresses the ways in which thoughts, emotions and behaviors can influence each other in dysfunctional ways and engages you to challenge those pathways and create better coping skills through a series of systematic exercises, worksheets, and other educational materials.
-
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy with roots in CBT, focuses on mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and emotion regulation. While I am not specifically a DBT practitioner, I draw from many of the techniques utilized in DBT therapy, including mindfulness, acceptance, and distress tolerance.
-
Narrative Therapy, which helps clients to identify and examine the stories they tell about themselves and their own life experiences. It looks at beliefs, values, personal assumptions, and intentions and uncovers the impact those stories have on their lives. This type of therapy can help you identify alternative stories, open a wider view of yourself, and allow you to see new ways of living that are healthier and more authentically you.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a therapeutic model that encourages you to accept your feelings and find a way to move forward even while having the feelings that may have felt like a roadblock in the past.
-
Creative/expressive arts, primarily as a mindfulness and coping skill.
-
Any current and developing solutions-focused and strength-based therapies that will help you develop skills, beliefs, techniques, and support systems and move you towards your most authentic and fulfilled self.
